Had I been sleeping...

Was I asleep?
Had I been sleeping?
Is this life just a figment of my imagination -

or is my life - just a figment of someone else's imagintion?

They would often tell me that
you are a figment of my imagination
and I tried to believe them
yet I tried to embrace you at the same time.
because I thought it true that if I loved you
you'd have to love me back too?

sometimes you bring me
right down to my knees -
bleeding wounds and hearts in cocoon
my tears rolling down right through my gritted teeth
and my severly bitten lips...

But what can I do but just keep hoping too?
I was born with so much hope,
and I was born with so much faith,
and so much promise that the promise itself
outshone me my whole life.

The promise was a legend and I was just human.

desperation is like quick sand
the more you resist, the faster it consumes you
but when I don't resist, you make me look like a fool.
should I just sit here and take it?
make you just sink me into dark oblivion
with no rope to get up to.
no olive branch extended.

the stars stopped shining
the sun was too bright
the moon was too pale
and the wind was too cool.
the water so poisoned
with your reflections.

But what can I do but go on with this hope stuck to my heart?
remember - everytime you bring me down to my knees -
don't let the tears fool you -
I'll be back up again
and though I am just human and you seem to be much more,
remember, I am where the legends came from.

Part of "The Wall" in Southampton, England.

From Episode 18 of Heroes

Linderman: ''There come a time when a man has to ask himself whether he wants a life of happiness or a life of meaning.''

Nathan: ''I'd like to have both.''

Linderman: ''Can't be done. Two very different paths. To be truly happy, a man must live absolutely in the present, no thought of what's gone before and no thought of what lies ahead. But a life with meaning, a man is condemned to wallow in the past and obsess about the future.''

Which one would you choose?
