Pic of Airport Security from "History of Flight"
Let me tell you what I do not enjoy. I do not enjoy discrimination. Am not saying am perfect and do not harbor discriminatory thoughts but most of the time I try to be fairly open minded. And am pretty used to discrimination as I haven't lived in my own country for ages, so on everyday or week basis, am always having ot explain things to people. it's ok that people assume, as long as they don't hold on to crazy mad beliefs that harm people. And this incident at LAX kinda really angered me.
I know, there are people who are going, "Oh, at least they didn't arrest you and keep you in jail for your skin color, or something worse" and I am sad those things still go on as well. But here's what happened to me:
Scenario:
Am flying to London's Heathrow airport for sister's wedding. Am at LAX International terminal and I go through the baggage X-ray and the metal detector. Behind me, a tall white guy, blonde spiky hair, looks like a normal frat boy on a college campus. I go through metal detector after taking shoes off, nothing beeps, they ask me to go stand in between 2 lines, in a special corner, "oh!", am thinking, "it is near September 11, they are probably making a big deal, routine check, no biggie".
WRONG! Racial discrimination alert!. while am standing with legs apart, arms stretched open with palm up, getting scanned very slowly by a security guard, the white frat boy like guy goes through the metal detector, claims his bags and proceeds to leave!!!!! while me, an Asian woman from Burma am being scanned slowly. To make matters worse, for some reason, the scanners beep. Security guards turn me around, I hold onto the railings, as they proceed to pet me down! PET ME DOWN! Why? They didn't find anything. They watch me as I put shoes back on, they proceed to re x-ray my bag and my lighter and then watch me as i collect my bags. Mr. white frat boy look alike is gone now, never had to stop. For all you know, he is a spy for the terrorits!!! But no, me, I had to stop. Not him. Why didn't he have to stop?
You tell me if that isn't racial discrimination.
I don't mind security checks, for the sake of national security, blah, blah, blah. But if I have to go through it, so should Mr. White frat boy. I just ask for equalness in treatment. that's all.
So for all of you out there who still believes that Bush was still going to war for the "right reasons" to "protect people, save lives, free the Iraqis" Bah! All he did was to claim oil for himself, promote blatant racial discrimination and made the world a nicer place for the elites who didn't need help anyway.
so, BAH!
I mean, I (given, I am Burmese, a country not in US's friends list) got searched by the airport security guard and am not even a male muslim or of a race that's from the Middle East of Muslim countries. Imagine the innocent guys with the turbans (who may or may not be muslims) who have to travel. Just imagine.

I feel you Moe. I always get checked too. Apparently I look very dangerous-lol.
They discriminate against everybody! I got checked. They made me take off my flip flops and throw away my eyebrow plucker! grrrrr....
