From Burma Junta's Foreign Mnister Nyan Win while addressing the U.N General Assembly:
(Source: CNN)
"The situation would not have deteriorated had the initial protest of a small group of activists against the rise in fuel prices not been exploited by political opportunists," Win said. "They sought to turn the situation in a political showdown aided and abetted by some powerful countries."
Yangon Thu: Political opportunists? Which political opportunists? The monks who went around peacefully praying and asking for the people's needs to be met? And by the way - which powerful nations are aiding and abetting these protesters? As far as I am aware - EU and USA have rolled out sanctions against the Junta. ASEAN countries have sent "we don't like you killing people so close to our countries" letters. China has asked for "Restraint". I don't see any countries really helping anyone trying to oppose the Burmese Junta.
"The security personnel exercised utmost restraint, and they did not intervene for nearly a month," the foreign minister said. "However, when the mob became unruly and provocative, they were compelled to declare a curfew. Subsequently, when protesters ignored their warnings, they had to take action to restore the situation. Normalcy has now returned to Myanmar."
Yangon Thu: Outright lies. The security personnel did not show any restraint, what so ever at all. Why, the first protests that began in August 2007, before the "saffron revolution", the plains clothes police "Swan Arr Shin" were out in forces arresting people, beating people, trying to impersonate peaceful protesters and causing chaos, etc. Let me show you a few pictures:

The woman in the centre is Ma Su Su Nway, a staunch democracy activist, she was just released from prison in 2006. Here, they are trying to arrest her again for protesting on the streets. Poor girl is said to have developed a heart condition from the harsh treatment inside the prison
Below are pictures of Plainsclothes policemen "Swan Arr Shin" trying carting peaceful protesters away and fighting with them, etc.

I even have a video, y'all, showing these things. How is Nyan Win just going to lie outright? If he has any guts, he would say these things to the people without any armies of soldiers protecting. And then see what they say.
And please, I'm so sick of "we didn't do anything untill they hit us" statements. First of all, there was no violence on the parts of the protesters. But, if you are going to kill their loved ones, their friends and even children, people are going to get mad, y'all. I know some of them threw some rocks after the soldiers started shooting. BUT wouldn't you try to protect yourself, if someone was shooting at you and trying to cart you away for simply asking for dialogue and discussion from the government?
With restraint? Very ludicrous!!!
One evident of the brutality is just here.
Point black killing of Nagai San, the Japanese journalist.
