Quote of the day:
"Certain western media and anti-government media are broadcasting leading news stories and distorted news stories to stir up the mass protests," the official New Light of Myanmar newspaper said in an editorial.
"Now, the majority of the people who want to lead a peaceful life and are in favour of transition to democracy in a smooth way are gradually suffering from the evil consequences of the protests," it continued.

I'm not sure why the Junta thinks that the people have no eyes or ears or minds to know what is happening right under their noses.
Look who is evil now:
Protesters saying prayers and singing the national anthem of Burma - standing off with the soldiers. After a while, you hear shots and choas as the protesters run for their lices as the soldiers shoot at the crowd.

Riot Police chasing protesters with a club
Apparently a Japanese national (a photographer) and a German national (I cannot confirm this source) are reported to be dead. U Myint Thein and U Hla Pe from the National League of Democracy (Daw Suu's party) has been reported to be arrested.

Unlike recent days in which protest marches involved tens of thousands of mostly monks, almost no monks were involved in Thursday's confrontations, with most of them being sealed off in their monasteries or placed under arrest.

- Besides the dead Japanese, a hospital source said two other people were wounded when soldiers fired shots to disperse crowds on Sule Pagoda road. "I think only a small percentage of the wounded were sent to hospital," the source said.
CNN's breaking news just reported the number of dead to be 10 meanwhile dozens to hundreds are said to have been carted off in army vehicles.
Posted by Yangon Thu at September 27, 2007 09:55 PMHello from France where medias speak about Burmese crisis and the dictatorship in your country.
Good look for you and all your people !

I have been in Burma in 1981.
Since 1988 movement, I will only go back to your country when the junta will leave.
You're a so beautiful and so nice people.
My heart is with you in this fight for freedom and democracy
Posted by: rosu at September 28, 2007 06:26 AMI'm fighting back tears - thank you for all your responses. As I have said before, if we all unite, no one can bring us down. Burmese people sorely need international support. If you haven't signed the petition to the UN and spread it amongst your friends.
thank you and I will definitely keep blogging about this (my way of fighting back at the Junta, really)
Myanmar Militrary governments are treating their citizens like animals. The world just let them do it. U.N is still discussing about the affairs which is the same as letting innocent people die. This is ridiculous. Mr. Bush or other powerful contries should help and take down Myanmar government right now.
Posted by: Myint San at September 28, 2007 01:15 PMMingalabar to all Myanmar friends !
Myanmar is a most special place on earth with
the most beautiful people and culture. The world
can learn so much from you.
I wish that the Sayadaws tell the generals and soldiers and riot police that THIS IS NOT THE BUDDHA'S WAY. They must put down ALL arms against their own people !!!!!
Human rights violations must be brought before the international courts in DEN HAAG ! I want to see Mr. Than Shwe before court like Mr. Milosevice and all the other evil doers !!!
UN troops must help !!
All the best for you all
Posted by: NicoGermany at September 28, 2007 07:16 PMThanks Nico. Yes, I want to see Than Shwe being charged for all the atrocities he has committed. But he is not the only one, the rest of the generals need to be tried as well.
Ko Myint San - I'm afraid the US is rather busy in Iraq at the moment and really, we don't have enough oil to peak his interests. But I do wish the UN would intervene - not just sanctions but with something that works. I dunno, they should be able to think of something.
