June 19th is Daw Suu's birthday and as we know, she is under house arrest. The US Campaign for Burma has actually come up with a brilliant idea. They suggest that you arrest yourself (stay at home for 24 hours, no going out) for 24 hours, on June 16 or 17 as though you were under house arrest, just like Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is.
That is the least they suggest that you do in protest of the Military junta's atrocious actions in Burma. You can go one step further, by actually holding an event in your home, on either of those dates. You can treat this as a fund raiser which will benefit the ongoing campaign to free Burma. Check out the full details here. I think it's a cool idea. I'm definitely going to stay at home on June 16th. I'm not sure of a house party because, well, I don't have any friends here in Southampton right now. lol. Maybe I'll hold one when I get back to Singapore. I applaud the US campaign for Burma for organizing this. It feels good to be able to do something/take action for the good of Burma as often, I feel rather helpless about it.
On a side note, I think that in the future, I'm only going to post articles on Burma that I have an opinion(s) over that is insightful/helpful/that will lead to action. It's just that I often post angry/sarcastic rants about the news that I hear and thing is, I can keep on doing that forever but I will keep feeling like a bad documentary. You know, like the bad documentaries you see on BBC, or CNN, or the Discovery channel where they just tell you what is wrong in a certain place/region and then they give you no solution(s). It becomes pointless after half a dozen times. That's how I feel about what I do with my political views nowadays. Just rants at the end of the day. Yes, I know, I'm entitled to them but I rather not keep on focusing on the negative issues but rather, work toward positive action. :)
